Dear members of the KU international community,

Following the national measures taken against the spread of the corona-virus, we want to clarify the status of those who are currently abroad and in need of more clarity on their residency.

You may follow-up on the up-to-date country-specific travel restrictions to Turkey on the website of Turkish Airlines.

We gathered the frequently asked questions together and answered them below.

I have departed from Turkey after I submitted my residence permit application. How can I learn the status of my application and how can I re-enter Turkey?

Once your permit card issued and sent to the university, you will be notified by the related department (the Registrar’s Office or Human Resources).

Please ask for your Foreigner ID Number (written on the card, starts with 99) to the department which notified you. Even though it is not guaranteed, you may enter Turkey with your Foreigner ID Number since the passport control officers are able to see your permit on their system. Please check the current travel restrictions before you plan your journey back to Turkey. You can check the website of Turkish Airlines to keep track of that information.

If you do not get any notification regarding your permit card 1,5 months after you submit your documents, please e-mail us: ico@ku.edu.tr.

My residence permit is expired while I'm abroad and there is no flight to Turkey at the moment. What should I do?

You should wait until the Turkish authorities remove the flight restrictions to your country. You can check the website of Turkish Airlines to keep track.

After that, you should visit the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to learn the country-specific visa types. Then you should follow the instructions there and apply for a visa or e-Visa if you need to.

If you are obliged to apply for a visa at a Turkish mission in your country, please e-mail us beforehand so that we may contact the mission to expedite the process.

Can I enter Turkey if my residence permit is expiring in 1 day?

If there is no entry restriction to your country, yes you can. To keep track, you can check the website of Turkish Airlines.

I am abroad but not in my home country and my residence permit has expired. How can I re-enter Turkey?
