HEALTH & EMERGENCY

Health has the utmost importance in life. Making sure that you are covered during your stay in Turkey and being aware of the closest medical centers and health services allows you to take necessary actions quickly during an emergency.

On this page, you will find several health insurance options you have, the closest health services offered around the campus, KU Hospital, obtaining a health report, and more.

International people are required to have health insurance that is valid in Turkey and covers the complete duration of their specific academic program or research. Each individual must share a copy of the insurance policy in English or Turkish (if obtained in Turkey) with his/her program advisor or department upon arrival. As health insurance is not only for your own safety, but it is a legal obligation for foreign residents in Turkey, those students who fail to do so will be de-registered from their programs.

Accepted Health Insurance Options:

  • International Health Insurance Valid in Turkey: Any insurance company from anywhere that has an office in Turkey, offers service and coverage for you in Turkey (Only for exchange students).
  • Private Student Health Insurance in Turkey: If you do not arrive in Turkey with an insurance policy, you can use this option and purchase insurance by emailing Guard Me (salesturkey@guard.me). Guard Me offers services in English and can arrange your insurance fairly quickly without a Tax ID number (most companies need a Tax ID number).

You may also look for and find other companies, such as Allianz, Güneş Sigorta, by yourself. In that case, please specify to the agency you contact that you are going to apply for a residence permit and your insurance must be issued accordingly.

It is very important that your insurance policy has the following statement:  “İşbu poliçe 06/06/2014 tarih ve 9 sayılı ikamet izni taleplerinde yaptırılacak özel sağlık sigortalarına ilişkin genelgede belirlenen asgari teminat yapısını kapsamaktadır (This policy covers the minimum coverage arrangements specified in the circular on private health insurances to be used in residence permit requests dated 06/06/2014 and numbered 9)”

Please note: We do not provide assistance or assume any responsibility with health insurance. You must contact the agencies, follow through with all transactions, and make sure you understand your policy coverage very well.

  • Home Country Social Security (Based on Eligibility): You can use this option if you are coming from a European country that has a Social Security agreement with Turkey. More information is available here.

Health Centers on both campuses operate 24/7.

Students can reach the Health Centers as below:

  • For Fener (Main) Campus, by dialing university extension “1273” or “0212-338 1273” from mobile phones and external land-lines.
  • For West Campus, by dialing university extension  “7000” or “0212-338 7000” from mobile phones and external land-lines.

Health Centers have ambulances for transferring patients to other hospitals when needed.

If you want to visit the KU Hospital for an examination or a treatment, there are several points that you need to know.

Even if you do not have private or state health insurance, you can still visit the KU Hospital. The hospital offers a 25% discount to KU members over the total amount of cost.

If you are a KU Medicine or Nursing student, there is no participation fee. Therefore, your KU Hospital visits are free of charge.

If you have health insurance because of your Social Security Participation (SGK), you benefit from the KU Hospital with a discounted amount.

If your private health insurance company has an office in Turkey and has an agreement with KU Hospital (such as Allianz), you benefit from discounted fares as well.

If your private health insurance does not have any agreement with KU Hospital, you pay the cost of your examination or treatment and then ask your insurance company for a refund.

You need a health report
